Tang's Research Lab

Our research focuses on rational design of energy storage materials and functional electrolytes towards practical application for advanced battery systems working in extreme conditions. Our approach is interdisciplinary, covering from materials science and engineering, physics chemistry (electrochemistry), chemical engineering, and electrical engineering, etc. Starting from the basic theory, the programmable materials and functional electrolytes will be designed, and the fundamental understanding on the correlation between materials property and device performance can further guide the rational materials design, in order to boost the battery performance. Our mission is to make scientific and technological breakthroughs in materials science and energy storage field, offering new materials and solutions for practical applications of extreme battery systems.

Research Highlights

  • 1. The team used direct coherent multi-ink writing, three-dimensional (3D) printing technology by designing the internal structure of the coaxial needles and regulating the rheological property and feed rates of the multi-ink. The device delivered a superior areal energy and power density with outstanding mechanical stability. The team integrated the fiber-shaped asymmetric supercapacitor (FASC) with mechanical units and pressure sensors to realize high performance and self-powered mechanical devices to monitor systems. The work is now published on Science Advances.
